We have some of these in the house - you touch the little balls together, get them wet, and they stick together. Fun little toy for the kids.
Well, not any more, I guess.
Whatever happened to consumer safety laws? Did I miss something and they all get thrown out?

Same thing that's happened to environmental protection, international treaties, science policy, ...
Oh, wait, wait - I know! We reduced government bureaucracy because the "market system" would fix all of our ills!
Right?
Right on the money! This comment was actually really timely, because the product safety commission has been in the news a lot recently. There were a couple of bills up before Senate that would increase the commission's power to go after companies willfully breaking the law and increase their budget, and the Bush-appointed head actually asked them to please not do so.
I guess I can understand that, though. After all, she's worked so hard in cutting budgets and firing long-time employees, and now the Senate is going to go and ruin all her hard work.
Did you know that in the single room in which they have to approve all of the toys that will be sold in America, they are so overcrowded that the only space they have to do a drop test in is the open space behind their door? I just can't see what they might need more money for.
